Product Review - Lustrasilk Curl Pudding

Hello again beautifuls :)

Today i decided to try something new with my TWA(teenie weenie afro). I have a strange looking curl pattern, a mixture of tight coils and loose coils, which makes my hair look all frizzy. So, to retain my curl pattern opted to try another frugal product from a local hair shop ,Lultrasilk Curl Pudding. When i say this on the shelf i was eager to try it because since it was a pudding therefore it would be thick and be able to penetrate into my thick tresses and enhance moisture while it does the job.
Unfortunately things werent as i anticipated. After i had done the deep treatment i decided to use the cream to define some good finger coils. So parting my hair with a wide tooth comb and took small portions of hair and worked my hand to create the coils.

I wasnt pleased with the results so i diverted and did Two-Strand Twist instead.Because of the length of my hair obviously the twists where not as correlated/ neatly arranged in my head. They were just all over the place but they did come out better that the finger coils.I noticed that there was a lot of buildup on my hair especially the the hair line but the proudct clearly says,no build-up.? That being one thing i didnt like about this product,it also made my hair feel hard and dry.Although it states that it will soften your.? The product is also enriched with Argan Oil which is on contrary meant to reduce frizz and restore moisture. However, in my opinion the product didn't fully work according to what it says.

Ingredients include :water, glycerin and tocopherly acetate among others. The reason why i picked these out is because they are the most hydrating ingredients especially water, so i was expecting my hair to receive intense haydration to which this product failed to fulfill. Tocopherly Acetate also known as Vitamin E is enriched with nutrients from vegetable oils that are meant to emollient and maintain moisture in the hair.

With all this goodness i only got buildup dryness and a concerntrated amount of flakyness. To be honest i wasnt pleased with this product, it was inexpensive but it just didn't do it work my hair. The twist outs it created only lasted for a day and they were by far less defined. So i am absolutely furious about the results. However i guess youy can say it wasnt for my hair type.

Wash And Deep Conditioning Day!

Hello again, i hope that you are all well.? :)
So today its Wednesday, and thats usually my day in the week were i deep condition and shampoo wash my hair. Otherwise other days i just do a wash and go. I like thr fact that i shampoo my hair once a week because that gives it enough time to get dirty.lol What i mean is because the shampoos have some strong cleansers that are determine to clean off all the bacteria on your scalp and doing that everyday day can be damanging to your hair. Slowly it starts to wash off the natural nutrients needed in your hair leaving your hair prone to frizz and breakage.
But again this depends on your hair type. Mine is type 4C and i dont take risks i make sure its conditioned always than anything hence i co-wash everyday. Again you dont really have to co-wah everyday 2-3 times a week is good enough. But i am taking advantange of my hair length and i still the natural hype since its only been 2 weeks. So this lil process of mine might stop as hair continues to grow.

I used one of my favourite shampoos, Avon Naturals Moisturising Shampoo, to wash off all the gunk of the week. The i deep conditioned using Organics Olive Oil Deep Conditioner with i mixed with my own homemade deep conditioner.
In the homemade deep conditioned i mixed : 1. Clear Honey with 2.Extra Virgin Olive Oil then i added 3. Pure Coconut Oil 4. Avocado Oil And finally 5.1 Egg York .Then i added the Organics Olive Oil deep Conditioner to the mix and let it set for 5mins before i applied it to my hair. After pouring the mix on to my hair i wrapped it with cling film them a hot towel and a conditioning cap on top. Frugals for those without steamers...lol

I killed time for 30-40mins before the rinse off.

There after i washed it all off with lukewarm water then it was hello fluff! My hair was more fuller and more defined.
Thank you for reading and see you on my next post.

Life After The BigChop.:PRODUCT REVIEW.

My last post was about my turning point to being a natural, TBC. I have to say the change was absolutely great, i received so much support and encouragement from friends, not so much from family ;they will get the hang of it soon, strangers even would stop me and admire my hair. Must say i felt like a celebrity for a while lol. Apart from the public reaction; personally i felt happier in my self, i was more confident and i felt liberated. I must confess i never felt like that in my life, i mean did feel i looked good when i wore my relaxer or weave and wigs but this feeling was more genuine and i loved it. My biggest fear was not having the confidence to pull off the short hair since everyone around me has long hair i was more afraid what people would say behind my back "is she a boy?".But no it was even better. Andi think i even turned a few heads!ha
Right so since the past had gone i wanted to change my future look, more like erase the old style and create a fresh look. Like bringing fresh cookies out of the oven to replace the stale ones? What i am trying to say is i changed my hair color!. My natural hair color was dark brown/black,like that colour 4 on weave or extentions? Yeah that color and i ABSOLUTELY HATED IT!I didnt like the colour although i think somewhat i think thats the common hair color for people of colour. Anyway i decided to dye my hair JetBlack. I chose this colour because i thought it would match my medium light skin tone. Also i like jet black because its real and it original and it just eye-catching. Jet Black is the in look this Fall/Autumn with a celebrities working it on the Red Carpet.

Ginnifer Goodwin here just working that vamping short JetBlack look on the Red Carpet of the 2012 Emmys.
Rihanna also rocking the JetBlack short hair on the Grammays Red Carpet earlier this year.

With all this adorable inspiration i went head hunting for some good quality hair dyes. One thing i knew is that hair dyes damage your hair and then change the color! I couldnt face damaging my hair agin after all i had been through with it. So i went head hunting for good hair dyes..haha as unrealitic as that sounds. Some hair dyes contain Ammonia which isnt really good for youand they also have so many chemicals which are also bad for the hair.
So after a good head hunt for hair dyes i finally found one which actually contains natural oils (60%). Yes, believe that!I discovered the new Garnier Olia

I loved this product, it comes in a really cute box with really cute applicators. The instructions are really simple and easy to follow.

It takes about 30mins to, depending on your hair length and texture, mine is short kinky.

And that was the final look. I really love the colour and it does blend well with my skin tone. Try this new Garnier Olia Hair Dye. You will love the results.

The Big Chop aka (BC)

Now this is the biggest first step in becoming a natural. Its basically when you chop off your relaxed hair and allow the natural hair to dominate. You can do this in mainly 2 different ways,1. being literally shaving off all your hair going bald, or short. 2nd being transitioning ( weaning off a relaxer for a long duration of time)then chopping off the relaxed ends at your desired time. I transitioned for about 5 months before i BC.
When i first decided to put an end to using my relaxers, the thought of actually cutting hair alarmed me. Mind you i am a person who never trimmed her hair at all. I used to think its wasting hair!lol. Somehow my hair still grew moreover my faults of not trimming it. So since chopping/shaving wasn't a first option i had to let all grow out. My last relaxer was around end of May 2012 and from there on i did protective styles instead to keep that new growth growing. When ever i took my protective styles off i would wash my hair everyday to enhance the new growth, since water is the best moisturizer for naturals. And also to soothe my conscience, i felt washing my hair would increase my new growth.
One big problem with transitioning though is maintaining/carefully looking after the line of demarcation, ( the part that joins the new growth to the relaxed hair.)Yes that line is stress! Its prone to breakage and its very dry. When washing my hair i found it got tangled alot and it was extremely difficult to detangle. So i must say i lost a lot of hair there;one of the reasons why i only transitioned for 5 months. I just couldn't take the pressure.
Okay, so lets get to the D-Day, 30 September 2012! Right i have to say that day was quiet emotional for me in the sense that i couldn't believe i was finally going to do it. Trust me i was so excited on the other hand. I washed my hair after undoing my box braids then deep conditioned, this was the night before. On the actual day i co-washed(washing my hair with conditioner) my hair using Tressamme Natural Conditioner and finger detangled. Then, i chopped it off!...

To make it easier i sectioned my hair into 4 parts and i braided it.That why it was easier to determine the line of demarcation. Then i chopped it off with a pair of scissors. To get rid of those straight ends i used a pair of clippers. Yeah, after that i was in shock!lol I rinsed my hair again to wash off all the cut hair then conditioned with Avon Naturals Souffle.
That was it i had changed i was natural!eeek!! The feeling after was unbelievable, liberated, happy and most of all proud. Growing up on all those relaxers i had never seen the beauty of the other side. Now that i had seen it i fell in love and i just wanted to live in it forever!

Welcome To My Blog....

So, I Am Not Very Good At Introductions... But Here It Goes...
Hie, My Name Is Melissa Blacks From England, United Kingdom. For The Rest Please Read My Profile.
Well, I Don't Suppose That Went Bad At All.!
Welcome To My Blog, Which I Created To Share The Journey Of My Hair From Relaxed To Natural. I Started Using Relaxers At About The Age Of 8. Before That I Had Long,Kinky,Afro Hair. It Was Painful To Maintain, I Remember My Mother Used To Have it In Neat Plaits Of All Different Patterns. On Special Occasions I Would Have it Flat Ironed With That Old School Flat Iron,The One You Heated On The Stove,This Was The Mid-1990s.
On My 8th Birthday I Got A Relaxer, To Be Fair I Don't Remember What It Felt Like, But I Loved The Texture Of My Hair Afterwards, Smooth, Soft, Sleek,It Became My Life Style.I Would Have My Hair In Plaits At All Times Straight After A Relaxer Which Came Every 6 Weeks. Funny Enough, I Never Had A Scar Or An Itch When I Was Having My Crack Dose,Relaxer. Each Treatment Went Well Until I Changed Hair Dressers. I Started Scaring And Burning My Scalp, Dandruff Emerged And Breakage Started. My Hair Became A State,But I Continued On My Treatment Now Changing Brands, This Added Salt To The Unhealing Wound.
My Head Became A Dam Of Flaky, Dry Skin Peeling aka Dandruff. It Infested, Took Over And Ruled Over My Head.My Hair Length Shortened From Armpit Length To Barely On The Neck Length. In A Word, Chaotic.
I Was Ignorant And Skeptical About Natural Hair, Dont Blame Me, But I Had Seen All Kinds That Where ,In A Word, Horrendous. I Would Mock People With Natural Hair... "relaxer is £4 by the way" I Would Say or "why are you natural?" I Just Didn't Favour It.
Earlier This Year I Was On Youtube Browsing, Then I Came Across A Users' Channel That Blew Me To The North And Back. She Was Doing A Tutorial On How To Do A Frohawk With Her Hair , Her Real Natural Hair.
Immediately I Remember Phoning My Friend And Telling Her About This Youtube Channel We Watched A Few Videos Of Her Together In Disbelief. Then We Questioned Her Nationality, It Was The Same, African. From That Moment On ,I Became Open Minded About Natural Hair, I Saw Its Beauty Of A Whole African Woman. You Can Call It A Miracle I Call It A Revelation, . Laila-Jean Washington Thank You For Your Videos.
They Made Me Embark On A Journey To The Naturals.
Bye Relaxers, Hello Naps, Coils,Kinks.
